How to choose a patio cover

Key things to decide before you order.

    • Pick the roof type

Solid roofs keep rain off. Insulated panels also keep the space cooler. Lattice roofs cast filtered shade and let some winter sun through.

    • Check the attachment wall

Most covers hang from a wall ledger or fascia. Confirm the wall or roofline can carry the load, and note windows and gutters in the way.

    • Mind the slope

The roof needs a gentle fall away from the house so water drains. Measure the height at the wall and at the far edge.

    • Match your climate

Snow and wind ratings vary with size and post spacing. Choose a size and post layout that suits your area.

Use the size guide to measure the wall height and projection before you pick a size. Not sure a patio cover beats a pergola? Compare shade structures to see the tradeoffs. Attached covers often need a permit, and our install and permit guide explains what to prepare. Free color samples help you match gutters and trim.

    Frequently asked questions

Quick answers about sizing, installation and delivery.

How much snow and wind can it handle?

Ratings depend on size and post spacing. Each product lists typical load information, and our team can confirm whether a size suits your area before you order.

Does it need a concrete slab?

Posts need a solid anchor: an existing slab in good condition or new concrete footings. Your local code sets the footing size and depth.

Can I attach it to my house?

Patio covers are designed to attach with a wall hanger or ledger. Carports are freestanding. Either way, check the wall or roofline with a contractor if you are unsure it can carry the load.

    How is it delivered?

Orders ship by freight to your driveway in the lower 48. The carrier calls ahead to schedule a delivery window.

    What does the warranty cover?

Warranty terms depend on the product and component. We confirm the applicable manufacturer coverage with your order; contact us with your product and order details for help.

    Can I pay over time?

Available payment methods and any installment options are shown before you place your order. Contact our team about payment arrangements for a project quote.
