Choose a pergola if you want flexible light

A pergola has an open or adjustable roof. Louvered models let you open the roof on a mild evening and close it for midday shade or a passing shower. They work well as a freestanding room in the yard or attached to the house.

Choose a patio cover if you want full, constant cover

A patio cover has a solid or lattice roof that is attached to your house. Solid and insulated roofs keep the space dry and noticeably cooler, which makes them a good fit for outdoor kitchens and furniture you want to leave out year round.
